A wave of optimism and determination swept through Ghent as food innovators from across Europe gathered for the Redesign Food for Value kick-off event. From the first introductions to the final farewell, participants forged instant connections that set the tone for a collaborative, open, and impact-driven experience ahead.

A Community Energised by Shared Purpose

With cameras rolling, the event buzzed with lively discussions, workshops and networking sessions. The after-movie captures the relaxed yet high-energy atmosphere. Perfect viewing for anyone already nostalgic for those Ghent vibes.

We gathered in the heart of Ghent, starting with a warm welcome dinner at Madonna Gent. A relaxed evening walk through the historic city led us back to our shuttle bus. It was the perfect setting to meet each other in an informal way and begin building the connections that will carry us through this unique journey.

This kick-off evening was more than just a meet-and-greet, it set the tone for a collaborative, open, and impact-driven experience ahead.

Day Two Highlights: Programme Deep Dive and Inspiring Demo TourFood Pilot Tour

The second day of the Redesign Food for Value kick-off was all about connection, clarity, and hands-on inspiration.

After a shared breakfast, participants boarded a shuttle to the ILVO Auditorium, our venue for the day. The morning began with breakout sessions designed to deepen connections and build trust among the cohort. From there, the full programme journey was unveiled: an introduction to the timeline, the structure of the modular approach, and what participants can expect from each phase of the experience.

A Look Inside Food Pilot

In the afternoon, the group visited Food Pilot, a renowned facility that supports innovation in food reformulation. The tour offered a close-up look at the technical possibilities available to help develop healthier, more sustainable products without compromising on taste or consumer appeal. Participants left inspired by the real-world tools and expert support that will be available to them throughout the programme.

Looking Ahead: Module 2 and Beyond

Back at ILVO, the team provided a short introduction to Module 2, outlining next steps and opportunities for collaboration. The sense of momentum continued as teams started thinking about how to apply early insights to their product strategies.

Postal Card

A Reflective Close

To conclude the intensive two-day event, participants gathered for a group closing moment. Each person received a postcard to write a message to their future self—a wish, a goal, a reminder. These cards were placed in our special postal box, to be returned at the end of the programme next year.

We’re already looking forward to seeing how many of those wishes come true—with the support of the programme, the advisory board, and the strong network forming among participants.

Expert Guidance from Retail Trailblazers

A highlight of the day was a virtual retailer deep-dive featuring our Advisory Board members Menno Wigtman (Jumbo), Peter Meewisse (Hilton Foods), Fabrizio Fabbri (EuroCoop) and Esmée van Veen (Lidl). Their candid insights into buyer expectations and merchandising realities equipped participants with practical next steps for bringing future-fit products onto store shelves.

Stay tuned as the Redesign Food for Value journey continues. Together, we’re reshaping the future of food.
